Vision

.

Either we protect the wealth of the ultra rich who trash the economy to satisfy their mindless greed, or we concentrate our energies on empowering ourselves, investing in opportunities for us all. It is a matter of vision.

The “trickle down” theory has a major flaw in it, other than it being an absolute joke; it necessitates that we center our society totally on the whims of the psycho greedy. Even now, after these criminals raped our economy in 2008, they demand that they call the shots. They hold “jobs” over our heads as if they had any intention of creating them. They are in effect saying, “We won’t even start to think about creating jobs until we are in complete control”. The truth is that they have no intention of creating any jobs. Their only concern is the control.

“If we just take the regulations and taxes off of the rich then jobs will come flying out of their asses!” Is that correct? Do I have that right? I admit you have the better of me here. Keep in mind that I was indoctrinated by evil liberal professors who taught me that the job market also has a supply and demand curve that defines it. What I can’t see is how the demand for skilled labor increases because you give the psycho greedy carte blanche. The usual answer is, “Because then they will spend that money and thus create jobs."

Spend it on what?

Building things.

Where?

We’ve just extended the Bush tax cuts and got nothing. You only buy something if you have or feel a need. What do the rich need that they are not already getting…other than a conscience? There is no need to create jobs if you have no need for anything. So there will be no jobs created this way. This only inflates the coffers of the psycho greedy which means less money that can be used for real job programs. Giving tax cuts to the greedy does not address our economic needs; it just appeases greed…temporarily.

Greed is an act of ignorance. Instead of living in a society where we help build a sustainable economy, creating necessary projects that create necessary jobs, investing in technologies that will make us stronger and more competitive thus raising the standard of living for everyone, developing an atmosphere that encourages the arts, that tells the story of our times, our personal dramas as well as our shared encounters, but instead of all this, the conservative mindset is dedicated to making sure the kings and queens of our democracy get everything their very little hearts desire.

If you want to practice greed you should know the costs. Christians, for example, could no longer support you as greed is a sign of you worshipping Mammon. The dharmic religions, like Buddhism, would see you as creating destructive karma by causing grief and hardship, the loss of people’s homes and savings, the loss of life from not having proper medical care, artificially inflating your importance in the universe, and the like are just a few things that will be coming back to haunt you. You are not the lord our god. Your ego is the false god you put before the real One.

Then there are the people that support the “kings” and “queens” of our Democracy plutocracy. Maybe there is a basic subservient gene that drives the conservative mindset. Maybe that’s what was driving the loyalists during the American Revolution, I don’t know, but it is not driving me. I’m driven by a vision of a society investing in itself, to use this opportunity to build a solid base from which our society can grow. We must rebuild our infrastructure. We are gambling with our lives every day we put this off. It needs to be done and now. The same is true for the power grid. And there is a need for strong, fast and efficient internet access necessary for our small businesses to compete in economies local to worldwide. And we most definitely need to get the profit motive out of healthcare. Only those who heal; doctors, dentists, nurses, the actual health care providers are who we should respect financially. A head of an insurance company should make minimum wage and be forced to live in a hollow tree instead of taking $23,000,000 a year* out of the system…and for what?! Jesus wouldn’t take that kind of money, but if He did He’d most likely give it back to the people who have to support that kind of greed. Never forget we pay for greed, directly and in many ways, we pay for greed.

[*If based on a traditional 40 hours a week job, that’s over $11,000 an hour!]

If we concern ourselves with building strong communities with the energy of our lives, instead of centering our lives on the whims of a small group of dickheads, we would witness an altogether different vision than what is offered by the conservatives. Those components of society that give a culture its definition like literature, art, music, cuisine, architecture and design are just part of what cultures develop when they are left unfettered by the taxation (demands) of blind corporate greed. The corporate mindset, however, has no other maxim than profit. This tells us that greed is dictating the way these people see the world. It does not speak to the reality of the world, but only to the greed monger’s vision of the world.

The reason why these people are convinced that their “greed way” is the right way is because it is the only mindset they know. How does one explain blue to someone who does not see? When greed goes to church, it interprets everything it sees to conform to the greed vision…then they utter “mine is the true religion” with no other possible explanation considered. When driving a car…it is greed that cuts in front of others…parks in the handicap space…does not yield for others, “Me first! Everyone else can fight it out for second,” etc. Greed is convinced that it knows who the real patriots are…they are people who think like me! Greed teaches that who or whatever wants you to experience any other way of understanding the world, is necessarily evil; evil not because it would be the end of the world, but because it would be the end of their “world”.

Blind corporate greed has already sacrificed the quality of their products and has increased their corporate “tax” on us in other ways as well. Why is what used to be a 1lb can of beans only 14.5oz now? Why is a roll of toilet paper getting narrower? Why does lunch meat have “water added” if not to increase its weight, which has us buying water at the price of, say, ham? They are raising their prices (corporate taxes) when they do these things, but they’re trying to sneak the price hike past us…why? Why not keep the quality and portion size of the product the same and raise the price when necessary…or is it that without the dickishness it just wouldn’t be as much “fun”?

This speaks directly to the mindset, the attitude, these people have for the rest of us. Another example: if you purchase something on line, you are often put on a list of people who responded to the company’s sales efforts. That list is seen as a resource which the company could sell on the information market. On top of this being an invasion of our privacy, they insult us by referring to this list as a “sucker list”. That’s their idea of customer respect. All these examples give us an idea of the “vision” driving the leadership of the conservative movement: pure contempt for the middle class. They would sacrifice the quality of their products and their moral worth for profit. They would (and have) sacrificed human lives if they could make money in the process. Profit is their only vision, their only commandment, their only religion, and it is their only god. They worship Mammon.

What if our society was dedicated to recognizing and advancing those who actually create a higher quality of living for everyone? What if that is what earned someone wealth? What if inventors were to get support from his or her community and were helped in setting up manufacturing to create more jobs for that community? How about direct connection with doctors without going through corporate regulations, and to establish the actual status of our health rather than maximizing the profit for a 12 minute visit? How about supporting our local talents, like farmers and chefs, the small cheese shops and local wineries, micro breweries and bakeries, instead of shipping, say, white bread from a bakery 1,000 miles away or thinking that international fast food chains are a good idea? These are small things but they are all part of what makes up our local cultures. Of course there is room for quality imports just as there is room for quality exports.

Advancements in science have created massive opportunities for humanity.  Health, green energy, communications and transportation are just a few of the advancements that hold great potential for our future.  Have you seen what the rest of the world is doing with high speed rail?  High speed rail service does not only help rein in our energy consumption, airport congestion, etc, but it’s a trip (sorry, I couldn’t resist):

I am talking about a quality based society, a quality based existence…not just existence.

There is so much wonder and possibility missing from the conservative vision that it raises real suspicions about their mental health. They always say we can’t afford it, but we can afford to give tax cuts to the psycho greedy. What we can’t afford is a system that rewards the manipulating our economy for the personal gain of a few, and the accompanying cronyism, at the cost of every other aspect of the human endeavor.

The Tea Party advocates are devoid of any heart or soul. This fact is on display in the Republican fiscal budget plan. It is utterly oblivious to the enormous pain it will cause even to its supporters own families. Yet it makes the pig pinker. Rep Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin, and an apprentice crony) proposes a budget plan that is so one sided and deplorable that he may as well stick his tongue directly into the ass of every member of the top 2%...right on national television…at high tea…on the capital steps. The Tea Party consists of puppets of the rich and until they can reclaim their humanity, empathy and sense of fairness, I don’t know how we can trust any of them. Indeed, I agree with those elements of the Tea Party who want to form their own country. I have ideas in regard to that myself…see, we can agree on some things.

The Tea Party wants to destroy Medicare and Medicaid so they can pay for these expenses on their own, shifting more money out of the middle class and into the coffers of the already rich, making the pig yet pinker. Then when it becomes impossible for grandma to pay for her health care, she’s out of luck. No death panel, just a death sentence…and pinker still, the pig remains. This is why I consider the members of the Tea Party insane. The Tea Party will endanger their own future and drag ours with it just so they will be seen as good human pets by the rich. Humans aren’t pets…so either gather up some self-respect, courage and dignity or get the hell out of the way.

Capitalism died in the fall of 2008. It was in all the papers. This crash was calculated, planned, and premeditated to have the effect it had and to benefit those who planned it. Everyone else in the world was told, in effect, to “piss off” and if we wanted a financial system at all, we are going to have to fill the coffers with what money remains, and give control of that to the very same goons. The money in the 2008 crash did not disappear, these assholes stole it. Now they want their taxes reduced (if not obliterated) as well or they will create no jobs. It is no longer capitalism these people are practicing, it is institutionalized extortion.

However, there are alternative plans going around in places like “post-Walker” Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, and our other sister states who are actually suffering under the very real fascism the Tea Party has foisted upon us. The idea is to freeze the assets of the psycho greedy and bring them up on charges of economic terrorism, and after being found guilty, will be forced to work the rest of their lives at a Wisconsin teacher’s salary and benefit package. Their earnings above that as well as their amassed wealth previous to conviction would be used to pay down the deficit. They will not have any bargaining rights and will not be allowed to organize for better working conditions.

The truth is that our country is dying in front of our eyes and the eyes of the rest of the world. For proof all you have to do is look around as you’re living your life. Our democracy is fast becoming a plutocracy because that is what the rich want. Our roads and bridges are crumbling, but the rich don’t use them so it’s of no concern. Our health care sucks, but it is a major source of income for some of the elite and, of course their healthcare plan is excellent (they’re rich), so a bit of hard cheese for us there as well. Our power grid is extremely wasteful at a time when efficient use of energy is demanded. Salmonella and E coli outbreaks in our food supply are no longer uncommon. Some of the Tea Party governors are trying to pass tax increases on the poor and the elderly to pay for tax cuts for big business and the private wealth of the already rich, and the list goes on. All of this is allowed to happen because some assholes want to make even more money than they already make and at any cost, as long as the cost is ours.

It is time to end this insanity. It is time to stop praising greed and protecting the greedy. It is time for us to end mindless Tea Party excitement as they rush to fulfill their dream of becoming slaves. Take them to task now. Demand that they prove that they are not fascists in light of the evidence now before us. They are destroying their lives and ours.

It is also time for people to realize the difference between God and Mammon. The psycho greedy are controlling many of us by bastardizing our cultural religion, Christianity. Many Christians think the Republican Party best represents God in our political arena, this even though Jesus charged Christians with feeding the hungry, giving shelter to the homeless, and educating and caring for our children. The Republican Party is constantly killing these programs because the psycho greedy do not gain by their implementation. The Republican Party is the party of Mammon, not of God.

What we center our life’s energy on is what we will accomplish. I wouldn’t care one damn bit if Tea Party members wanted to run head first into slavery except that they would be dragging us along with them. I, for one, am not going that way. If one doesn’t want to study what we have endured in the past, doesn’t want to learn all the nuances of the present day social/political debate, does not contribute original thought to that debate, then why would one want to speak at all?

If, however, you do feel you are qualified to join the debate, welcome! If you want to dive in the deep end right away, you can try your hand at cracking this one:

“…You can not serve both God and Mammon.”

—Matthew 6:24

Mammon defined: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mammon

Our future will be determined by our vision. If you want to continue to be dominated by the rich, yours is the conservative vision. This is a world where the psycho greedy are at the center of everyone’s lives, with the rest of us and our dreams utterly expendable. What’s left of our democracy will become a total plutocracy. We will become the serfs of the corporate aristocracy.

If, instead, you see that the investment of time and resources made by the people must benefit all the people then your vision is liberal in scope. This is a world where our time and energy is centered on investing in all human endeavors, where those who actually make our lives better see financial excesses. These are the people who would actually spend their excesses because they are internally motivated to make things better…for everyone…not just themselves.

The conservatives are willing to destroy this country to satisfy the whims of the psycho greedy. Many of them are willing to let our country crash into the debt ceiling unless we give the psycho greedy everything they want. They have sabotaged all efforts to create a better country, world, because it does not favor the ultra rich.

The ultra rich are not hurting, we are. And we are hurting because of the criminal acts of greed by the ultra rich. It is time to bury the Tea Party in its own lies. It is time to expose the conservative view as the shallow, unimaginative and dim witted vision that it is. They are “loyalists” and should be trusted accordingly.

Our Revolutionary War was not fought over taxation; it was fought because we had no representation in the government that our taxes supported. We demanded to be represented, that our voices be heard in “our” government.

The beauty that is Paris was paid for by the French serfs. The nobility was not taxed. The serfs built the palaces and paid for the palaces but did not stay in the palaces because that was reserved for the people that did not pay and did not work. This was happening all over the world. The disparity was too mindless to allow. Tension was so high it was destined to burst wide open on its own. After everything that was endured by the colonist, including the upper class smugness, a shot was fired. The serfs could take no more. Our Revolution and the French Revolution were key events in the painful and bloody rise of the middle class. World War II and the Cold War were fought to protect the middle class from being stripped of its will, thus ceasing to exist except in appearance.

We are now being threatened by unbridled greed. Our freedom equates to choices. Without choices freedom doesn’t mean much. Our government, the House of the People, exists to create opportunities for all of us and protect us from loosing our ability to choose. We are the government of the people and if we allow the rich to keep buying the government, that is, if we keep electing people we know who have sold out to the psycho greedy, in reality we will have all of the tax burden but no representation acting on our behalf, only on behalf of the rich. We will be surfs…again.

Look at the evidence. The conservative view has the rich getting richer at our expense. The liberal view is investing in stable competitive growth for our entire country at the expense of the psycho greedy. They will still be richer than we will ever be but only 1,000 times richer, not 10,000 times richer. There is being rich, responsible and proud of it, and then there’s gluttony…

Really…a gold plated Ferrari? Couldn’t just have a cool jet black or a Ferrari red Ferrari? No it’s not illegal, nor should it be. Oh, it does indeed make a statement…but not as much as it raises questions. Questions like, “Why would you add weight to a ‘balls out’ sports car, especially if it didn’t inch you closer to the speed of light?”

OR

You could use your wealth and power to assemble some serious scientific and design talent and develop the fastest, trippiest, most futuristic hybrid (or better) car in this sector of the known universe. Something the middle-class can afford, that the middle class can build. And I mean give it some serious sack too, compris? You will be creating good paying jobs, as well as being responsible for using the profits from oil to help make the transition to the next generation of transportation thus continuing your own wealth and the wealth of your country…and help the environment heal. Yes, this makes a statement too. And if you’re prone to tripping, it will also guarantee you a positive place in history, which is also a statement, don't you think?

Please look at this graph again. Everyone knows, from rich to poor, this is not going to last. It depends on how we transition out of this state of imbalance that will determine whether that transition will be characterized by unity or bloodshed.

Innovation must replace greed.
Sentience must replace ego.
Awareness must replace belief.

“Innovation, sentience and awareness” versus “greed, ego and belief”, it is a matter of vision.

Greed is not the answer to our problem, greed IS the problem (…and it always has been).

The Day The World Ended (again).

.

[The story you are about to read is true (except for the parts I made up).  Only the names have been changed to protect the greedy, ignorant, vain, rat bastards that think this bullshit up.]

A while ago the Reverend…meaning “to be respected” - yeah, I know…anyway, the Rev Fartstink announced that the world was going to end on May 21, 2011. The “end times” would start at 6:00 PM (right after his favorite TV show aired its season finale I guess) but I never heard in what time zone. Anyway, the day came and I didn’t notice anything. There were no cracks forming in the earth, my house was still standing, people were still mowing their lawns, a couple were washing their cars, students were throwing the Frisbee around, kids were shooting hoops, the university still held graduation ceremonies, there were births and deaths at the hospital, weddings and funerals at the churches, you know, a regular Saturday. I did notice that my neighbor had built a fire and it appeared that he was burning animal sacrifices to God, but it turned out that he was just grilling up some supper for his wife and himself.

I didn’t see anyone being lifted up into heaven and the rest of us descending into a fiery abyss or any of the other crap that the Rev Fartstink predicted, but you can never be too certain about the "end times", I mean there isn’t much precedence to go on, although if given a chance I would “go on” the Reverend. As I don’t pray (because that would be a tacit assertion that whatever God’s plan is that I think it should be altered to suit my desires) I didn’t know right away how to get verification that indeed the “end times” were here. Being the philosophical type however and as we philosophical types sometimes refer to God and the “Ordering Principle in the Universe”, I had an idea. So with my gaze fixed at approximately 30° above the horizon (as best as I could discern from different characters depicted praying in religious art) I said aloud, “Point of order” to the heavens. Lo, the Archangel Connie came unto me and said, in so many words, “Yes?” To which I said, “Holy crap” and Archangel Connie said, “Well everything is holy in some respect, but what do you want...and could you speed it up, I’m busy as hell right now. People are trippin’.”

So I asked her if the “end times” were indeed upon us and she said, “I’ll tell you what I’ve been telling everyone else today, the ‘end times’ happened long, long ago.”

“So is this place heaven or hell?” I queried, but Connie couldn’t help but look at me as if I just fell out of my shoes…

She said, “Haven’t you noticed that nothing is permanent, that the ignorant want to rule over the wise, and that the greedy are taking everything for themselves with absolutely no concern for anyone else. Hasn’t that even raised an eyebrow?”

“So where’s the fire and brimstone…and the dark lord…and that kind of stuff?” I asked.

“Yeah, well that crap is made up by goons like Rev Fartstink who have enjoyed adding their spin to the religious texts over the years and now their ignorance has been institutionalized as holy.”

“So why is God allowing this?”

“God isn’t allowing anything. Humans are writing their own script. Your mental illness has nothing to do with God. God is not the ultimate positive ego that the goon people like Rev Fartstink claim. These people can only think in selfish, passive/aggressive terms so their understanding of the universe is of a selfish, passive/aggressive god which is more a reflection of their ignorance than it is anything or anyone holy.”

“So I’m living in someone else’s hell? How does that work then?”

“See, you’re still doing it.”

“Doing what?”

“You claimed that you are living in someone else’s hell.”

“But you said…”

“I said you are writing your own script. This is your dream, cowboy.”

“But I didn’t create the Rev Fartstink…”

“No…but you’re paying attention to him.”

“But he’s insane!” I demanded.

“…and only the insane believe him” she parried.

“But he’s a threat!”

“…A threat to whom…a society that has gone mad? You are only responding to one part of the madness. What about the madness of greed, the madness of self-loathing, the madness of grandeur, the madness of persecution, the madness of helplessness…do I need to go on?”

I had to pause…

”You’re right.”

And I could tell she was right too because I started looking at her as a woman. In fact I thought the wings were quite the trip. You see, I have a thing for smart, strong, intelligent women who can call me out when needed. I saw her meaning and my argument just evaporated leaving the beauty of her nature to see. [Note: It’s the “smart” bit that’s the reason I’m single.]

“So is there no way out of this dream?”

“There is one way out, but it is very difficult to understand.”

“And I suppose you can’t tell me either, eh?”

“Oh I can tell you, but will you understand is the question.”

“Try me.”

“Okay. Have you ever heard of the concept that God is omnipresent, that he is everywhere?”

“Well yeah sure…so how does that help?”

“And have you ever heard that God is truth?”

“Yeah, I heard all this in grade school…”

“Well if God is truth, and the truth is everywhere, but you can’t see the truth because you are always writing script, then if you temporarily turn off all that type of mental activity like your conceptualizing, dreaming, defining God, in fact all your internal verbalization, the only thing that would remain is the truth.”

“Just turn off my mental circus? That’s it? Well, that’s easy.”

“Is it? …Answer the phone.”

“What?”

Suddenly I woke up to my phone ringing.

“Yeah, hello…Connie?” I asked through the mental haze of waking from a nap. It was my neighbor…

“Who’s Connie?” he wondered.

“Oh…no…nothing. I was napping. I must have been dreaming”

“Did you meet somebody?”

“No, no, just some weird dream.”

“Well, anyway, I just wanted to know if we’re still going to the lumber yard tomorrow.”

“Haven’t you heard” I said, “…the world is going to end at 6:00 PM today.”

“We’ll, its 6:20 now…” my neighbor informed me, “…and whether the world ended or not, I still have chores to do. So are we on or what?”

“Yeah, I’m still going” I said as my head cleared.
“After lunch tomorrow?”

“Yeah, that would work fine for me.”

“See you tomorrow then.”

“Okay…bye”

Damn existentialists.

.

[A note to Rev Fartstink and anyone dumb enough to listen to him:

If the God of which you preach indeed exists, you do know He’s aware of what you’re doing, don’t you? He knows what and how much that money means to you. He knows you are using His name in vain so you are the one who is seen as “holy” even though you claim that you’re only about God. He knows your game, dude!

To your followers:

You do know that you are putting this false god before Him, don’t you? Don’t think you are? Then how do you understand that Jesus said that no one knows when the end times would come but here you are believing in the Rev Farstink fairy tale. You also believe that Rev Fartstink knows the mind of God as he has convinced you that God hates us…this being the same God who is also referred to as “the ALL LOVING God”, remember? And you prefer to be obedient to Rev Fartstink’s rules that he claims to have extracted from the Good Book, and forgot completely about the only rule, “love one another”. I’d ask you to take a good long look at yourself but I just don’t give a damn anymore. As far as I’m concerned you have a disease that consumes the creative mind. I’d tell you that you haven’t found religion but that you are having a life-long panic attack about dying, and I’d tell you that it isn’t necessary because if you believe that God is indeed an “all loving” God and that death is part of the life He gave you then you have nothing to fear. Instead you’d rather respond to Rev Fartstink rattling your cage, filling you and your family with fear and loathing. These are the characteristics of an altogether different entity, not of God.

But fear not for your fear-based life continues. Rumor has it that Rev Fartstink is “recalculating” the end times for you so you’d better send him another $70+ million…oh yeah and make sure to vote against Medicare because we can’t afford it, and vote against teachers so no one knows anything other than what Fartstink wants you to know, and you can give that money to this dickhead as well. I mean who cares, right? The end times will be here before you need any of that anyway, right? The Rev Fartstink decrees it…again….and you sheep will be sheared again… Although the Rev Fartstink is not God, he does play one on TV.]

On Buying Wine

.

April 16, 2011.

The almost twilight grayness of this April day whose light and warmth were lost to the last gasp of winter’s offensive. A strong cold cutting northwest wind challenges the right of spring to set new growth in motion, to keep one’s hat on one’s head, it even has the ability to commit a crow to horizontal flight upon spreading its wings, regardless of the crows intentions, and to its utter dismay.

I decided to make a “wine run” by walking to my favorite spirits emporium in spite of this wind…or maybe because of it. As I moved away from pondering the crow’s open field dilemma, I became witness to silent political debates raging in this small Wisconsin town, raging silently on car windows and bumpers, with everything from plastic fish outlines to not-so-subtle threats of violence, words on paper glued to the surfaces of cars and pick-ups. The world debate in sound bite mode…again.

A college student, choosing to face this weather in the hooded sweatshirt, shorts and flip-flops, the traditional garb of this subculture, nearly blue form the cold as my mind raced through time having witnessed what was once neat become cool, then hip, then groovy, then trippy, then organic, then radical, and eventually back to the simple fact that I just don’t care; a condition my therapist assures me is caused by my not giving a damn.

Then there’s this guy with this sign, “For Sale – by owner”…he started building his house, his dream house, himself after he got a job at the paper mill…but he lost his job when the paper mill closed and lost his wife when the paper mill closed so he’s selling his house that he built himself by himself because the paper mill closed.

Suddenly the wind gusts harshly, animating the at one time peaceful litter. Once lying there, decomposing to its own beat now stirred to action. A plastic bag offers an awe inspiring display of aerobatic daring until snagged by a low hanging fate. Not too far from this bag is another that tried to fly, mercilessly entangled in shrubbery. And there, another…drowned…weighted down by contents it tried to fly but could only slide across the surface and into a watery fate, facing a murky death in this black sea known as that huge mud puddle next to Thomson Hall. Still, it did not forsake its mission: to contain.

As I emerge on the other side from cutting through campus, the wind has eased as it considers its next assault. There is no more vegetation to speak of from here to my final destination. It is only strip malls, parking lots, a four lane highway and side road from here on. This is the most trying time of this journey for me as I am exposed to the general public, not just college students who don’t really care. Now I have to pretend that I’m not an alien life force, but an entity…just like everyone else…nothing to see here, folks, just a guy making a wine run.

From my past experiences I knew that once there, I wouldn’t have far to go. Sure enough, I was right again. But would I find what I was looking for?

I only had a zillion wines from which to choose...from all over the place.  The wine sections include Italy, France, Germany, Hungary, Argentina, Chili...this is going to go on for a while...anyway, there is also a row (like one of those in the photo) dedicated to Wisconsin wines:  http://www.wiswine.com/

As my culinary influence was first Chinese, then heavily French, now alternating with Italian, I didn’t pay much attention to anything called a fruit wine unless the fruit was a grape.  It wasn’t because I was trippin’, but because of my earlier exposure to stuff like Boone’s Farm Apple wine, and the like, which was little more than Kool-Aid with grain alcohol…well, how did you think I came to look like this?  Anyway, those experiences caused me to prejudge these wines, because I’m an idiot.  The latest trend in cuisine that I’ve taken to is recipes based on local, seasonal ingredients and one thing this area is known for is berries, cherries, and orchards.  I’m working on a Chicken dish with a sauce featuring pistachios and dried Door County cherries…this too is going to go on for a while…

Anyway, I made my selections:

A nice mascoto d'asti from Italy:
http://www.cupcakevineyard.com/Cupcake%20Vineyards,%20Moscato%20d'Asti

And a blueberry wine from Three Lakes WI (pronouonced "WWWI"):
 http://www.cranberrywine.com/blueberrywine.html

I rigged up and began the return trip. The plastic bags were still there, so were the bumper stickers, but the crow was gone…probably somewhere near Chicago by now.

When I got home, I was blown into my house and the storm door slammed behind me by the wind, as if to say, “…and stay there!” which was okay by me because I wasn’t planning on going anywhere tonight anyway. I unpacked my wine from my uncle’s WWII radio bag…a bag that saw action in the Battle of the Bulge I might add (…well, I guess I just did). No, I’m not going anywhere tonight. Tonight is going to be just the three of us; the constant stranger, my guitar, and a glass or two of blueberry wine.

Then, with a few flicks to a corresponding number of switches, my studio comes to life. When I am strapped in, I can create “worlds” in here. Once in sync with my guitar and fueled by a glass of wine, I will cut my soul open and spill its contents into the sonic stillness of this night, disturbing that perfectly balanced silence to let out a primal scream that will stir my ancestors.

It would have been my dad’s birthday today.

I always felt that he loved me, but I always thought he saw me as, well, nuts…well, uh, yeah okay I guess…with everything being relative…yeah okay, I‘ll go with that. But when I’d come home from college, and go out to catch up with friends that also came home for whatever holiday it was, I would return to find him reading my Socrates, Aristotle, etc. He really wanted to see first hand what these famous people were actually saying. He wanted to be engaged in these debates…he wanted to be a student, damn it, I know he did. And I knew if he had kept this up he would have been as batty as I am by the end of the next war.

So goofy or not, I’m in the studio. If I hit upon a nice riff, and it goes on long and smooth, I will pour a little more wine and raise my glass toward the ceiling, which here has to serve as the heavens, and say “For you, Dad…happy birthday! I love you.”

The Soon To Be Ex-Governor Of Wisconsin

Who's a good boy...

"These are the values inspiring those brave workers in Poland … They remind us that where free unions and collective bargaining are forbidden, freedom is lost.  They remind us that freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction." - Ronald Reagan.

Brothers And Sisters

.

To the Tea People:

One of your group said during the last election cycle that you wanted your country back. The problem is it’s not just your country, it’s our country too. The labor movement is part of our history, your history. The reason you have weekends is because of unions, the 40 hr work week is because of unions, workman’s comp, health care benefits, overtime pay, “safe as possible” working conditions, to name but a few. Workers were beaten and killed by those who didn’t earn their money, but got rich by rigging the system to have it pour into their coffers by design, deception and cronyism.

The Tea Party is now a part of our history as well. At present the best view of the Tea Party from history’s perspective is that you are seen as a sell-out group of meat puppets with the collective hand of the ultra rich (via the Fox Players) up your collective ass, pulling your strings and having you speak someone else’s mind; the mind of the heartless, soulless greed monger.

Why?!

Why do you take the side of those who are trying to end your freedoms and rob you of your citizenship by taking away your only real voice? You see what the corporate interest is doing to your brothers and sisters in the unions in Wisconsin…YES, YOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS. They are not your enemies as the Fox Players are desperately trying to get you to think. The Fox Players live in fear that you will realize you have much more in common with unions and labor than with the ultra rich, who get “creeped out” when you are in their presence. To them, you are dullards and goons that they manipulate to do their bidding. But if the Fox Players can get you to hate us, then your ass is theirs automatically, because it is your voice, as well as ours, that is under siege in Madison right now. But for some reason you are on the side of your own oppressors.

I implore you to realize that the people you are worshipping at Fox are politicians too, and you will only be well served if you rake them over the same coals and in the same way you do the liberal politicians. We welcome your concern, they will not. If you try to rake the republican politicians over the coals, you will find them pulling every old trick on you that they pull on us; they will attempt to ostracize you, vilify you, alienate you, vandalize you, curse at you, and hate you…and you know this is true because you are helping the greed mongers do all that to us right now. The thing is we don’t care anymore because we realize that if we are ruled by a plutocracy, we become slaves. You have to realize that this includes you. The plutocrats have no intention of befriending you. They will tell you whatever they have to because they need you as “muscle” against your own. When they’re done with you, however, you will have no voice whatsoever in the affairs of your own life. They will not give one insignificant damn that you were faithful to their cause.

Eventually, your boss will inform you that “times are tough” (still) and your wages are going to be cut in half and your benefits have been cancelled altogether, while he plans yet another vacation in Cancun. Then who are you going to turn to…Glen Beck? [Sorry, he’s vacationing in Cancun with some business guy.] Not only will they tread on you, my friends, they will relieve themselves on you in the process. Remember, these are the major league greedy we’re talking about here; they only take, they do not give.

The fact that you hate us so much for standing against blind corporate greed must make even you wonder what side of good and evil you’re on. What kind of world do you think you are going to live in if we do become a plutocracy? Please don’t answer this with a Fox Players sound bite. Really, when your wages get deeply cut, and you have to sell you home and move into a “workers camp” because it’s the only thing you can afford…and your wife is dying and your child is sick so you have to sell your guns and tools, etc, to cover the down payment on your health care services, and you can’t afford to own a truck or a car or a skateboard for that matter, and there’s no public transportation either, and your diet is limited to starch and fat…who, then, are you going to be able to turn to for help? If you say, “each other”, then you are a unionizing, anti-American, socialist bastard…right, or no hey? Because the word picture I just painted comes from the struggle that labor had to endure to get what rights we have now.

You, the Tea Party, are the “muscle” of corporate greed. Without you they are powerless. If you really want to make history, I mean really make history, side with us on this one...and watch Glen Beck’s career melt, and Limbaugh’s kingdom crumble. You will then hear them ostracize you, vilify you, alienate you, vandalize you, curse at you, and hate you…. But like all abusers, they will “forgive” you for acting without their permission and against their will because they have to. They might make millions, but not without you. In terms of real contributions to humanity, however, you people are worth much more than those two pant loads will ever be. You make stuff or make stuff happen, or both. Those two are instrumental in spreading hatred and derision among our neighbors and friends to benefit the ultra greedy.

Pundits are totally dependant on their followers for their longevity. All I can ask is that you make sure those you follow are taking you somewhere you want to go.

If the ultra greedy win in Madison, democracy in the United States will be in name only.

Recall Gov. Scott Walker! He prefers to serve out-of-state billionaires rather than the people of Wisconsin.

Strip Scott Walker of his Wisconsin citizenship. He is oblivious to the history of the people who make this state Wisconsin. He is using the office of Governor of Wisconsin as a launching point for his national political desires. He is not here to serve and protect the people of this state.

Strip Scott Walker of any labor rights or benefits. As he rejects the history of labor in this state, he shall then live without those protections for which people of Wisconsin fought and died.

Cut Scott Walker’s salary to the average teacher’s pay, then cut that by 9% because “times are tough”...He doesn’t receive any health plan because that was made possible by unions, so we don’t have to worry about that. No overtime pay, no workman’s comp (though he might get a hernia carrying those billionaires around on his back), no weekends, no vacation…oh yeah, he has to pay for his elderly parents care now too. (“Dip into your savings?” No, no you don’t have any savings. You’re living that rich teacher’s life now.) We will take the old Scott Walker’s savings and buy health insurance for those “freeloading” children of the poor….

Let us, also, make absolutely certain he understands that there is not a damn thing he can do about it. He will not be allowed to have any bargaining rights.

We should also check and see if the phrase “Superbus Phallum” appears anywhere on his coat of arms.

Pledge to recall Scott Walker:

My Belief Is Your Reality

.

Whenever we claim that something is true, we have had to somehow come to that conclusion. That conclusion is based on a logical construction derived from our thoughts, experiences, knowledge base, et al. Before we commit to a position or an action of any kind, we have in effect arrived at a conclusion that indicates that position or action. The conclusion yields a picture that is clear and cohesive, if done correctly. If not done correctly, at best we stop evolving and at worst we head toward chaos.

If you’ve been kind enough to have been reading this blog, I have been attempting to “shown you mine”, as it were, in terms of how I think. It’s not a matter of being the best at it, I just enjoy being able to create states of mind out of our sea of cause and effect that might yield any real situational awareness and/or direction this tumble through space might be packing. To get one’s “license” to be a professional thinker, one has to demonstrate the ability to challenge one’s own positions, beliefs, etc, and have a real desire to only get high off the truth. Indeed a hard drug to find, but it might end up that the search for it is how one gets high off it.

Great fun for me is reaching into the unknown with wisdom we have collectively accrued during our evolution so far. Logical, constructive thought based on demonstrable proof - not beliefs - has yielded everything from building our homes, offices, hospitals, etc, to being able to leave Chicago and be in Paris seven hours later. Logical thought has also given us the exploration of space, medicines and cures, liberty and justice, all of this and more from clear thinking and dedicated thinkers.

Some people, however, are not very good at this thinking business. One way this can occur is if a person is not stimulated to do so as a child, or left alone to be raised by the television, or flat out brainwashed. When emotional energy is stirred, people in this situation have developed no real way to understand the confusion, the increased level of energy and how to keep it together. They find themselves slipping into the easiest of the emotional patterns which is almost always anger, or it’s inverse, fear. When things are calm again, they return to living vicariously through their favorite television characters.

None of us want to be seen as stupid, or to be criticized or otherwise alienated from our society, but before we learn how to think, we have already been taught to “fit in” with the rest of the clan. Some of us really try to fit in and believe what other people tell us to believe, especially about God because “I certainly don’t know anything but what my society tells me about God”. It doesn’t dawn on us that our society doesn’t know any more than we do…but there’s free money to be had if people think someone does know, so they perpetuate their personal myth for personal gain. Eventually, however, a few of us can’t do it anymore. After all, we are talking about God here. We no longer fear being ostracized because to stick around is to spend your free time arguing over interpretations that were disproved long ago, so one tends to stay out of the fray, and the spotlight, lest the peace is to be disturbed.

Now and again, however, I hear concepts that are not thought through and conclusions that are being drawn that don’t involve the ones concluding at all, but are conclusions that others will be forced to follow. Some of the most notable of these indeed come from those who are attempting to use our societal indoctrination to convince us that they speak for God. Even though we don’t really know much of anything about the universe or life or anything else, there are always people who claim to speak for God. They don’t. They never have. They never will. But speak they do.

When these people speak, the fun ride that I call “thinking” becomes this propaganda tool; lifeless and static. Dictums, void of verve, dedicated to controlling thought to reach a specific conclusion - a major tenet of behaviorism. These are generated by people who are not seeking wisdom. They are attempting to use thought to control society to serve the desires of a few as they attempt to create a “reality’ of their own design and then have the audacity to call it God’s plan.

Alas, we find ourselves dealing with this aberration again. A politician in the United States advances that there is to be no abortion permitted in this free society…even in the case of incestuous rape. It is argued that God has a plan for all that He creates and we have no place in challenging God’s plan.

Here’s my problem with this:

If one would like to argue that God has a plan for all that He creates, then you are saying that God would create a man and create in this man the capacity and will to rape his daughter. God then would create a girl who is to have her life dedicated to the psychological horror of her father raping her, being forced by her government to carry that pregnancy to term with her hopes, dreams and desires for her own life of no consequence whatsoever. Not the rights of the child born, only the rights of the fetus.

It doesn’t matter what any of us think abortion is because it’s not our call. It’s the woman’s call. The pregnancy is happening inside her body and thus under her jurisdiction. I know this disappoints the control freaks amongst us who like to dress their greed for power as God’s will, but as it states quite clearly in the Declaration of Independence, “eat it” (abridged version). And if anyone thinks she would be getting away with anything, tell me where’s she going to go? Don’t some of you believe that everyone will be held accountable for their actions on Judgment Day? Then you should take faith in your own beliefs, or is there a “lack of substance” problem with that?

There is also the question of why God would use incestuous rape as a conduit of His will in the first place, what with the “all-loving” accolades and such. I mean the Dude that gave us the Immaculate Conception is going to give us incestuous rape too? Is He covering the spread or what? In other words, why would God need to bring a child into the world in this fashion? I am extremely hard pressed to find any lesson in this act worthy of an all-loving God. However, every rapist in the world will be thrilled at the news. They will all have to be released on the grounds that they were executing God’s will.

Add to that the fact that Satan doesn’t come up in this rationalization at all. Usually the “go-to guy” when it comes to deplorable acts, Stinky doesn’t even show up on the radar with this one. Doesn’t that seem a bit odd? Of course now that someone mentioned it, amendments to their argument will be showing up very soon, I’m sure.

Then there’s the question of God allowing this act to go down at all. I mean all Lot’s wife did was the natural act of turning to see what was happening behind her and God turned her into a pillar of salt. If one argues that God commanded that no one look back and because she disobeyed she became a condiment, well, guess what, raping your daughter is considerably worse…but no salt statue of dad…hmmm.

It seems that there’s two ways to go from here: Either there is no way to determine a difference between God and Satan, or these people don’t know what the hell they’re talking about. [Hint: It’s the latter]

If someone argues that “God works in mysterious ways”, remind him/her it’s their bullshit that works in mysterious ways, not God…remember God is supposedly the Ordering Principle of the Universe, the One who put order into chaos…just so He could mess with your head?

It is so easy for these people to speak for God. One just has to think of something that sounds like everyone in the target audience would applaud, express that view and wait for the applause…isn’t that right, Sharron?

Tucson

.

I apologize for the time it has taken me to publish the January installment of this blog. First, I was late because I was on vacation from Christmas through New Years. I spent most of that time in my studio writing music. I didn’t watch any news nor did I engage in any political, social, philosophical or any other type of debate. It was a time of relatively pure creativity, contemplation and peace. I spent Christmas Eve and Day with my family and some time with friends. I had the chance to get outside and walk around in the winter wonderland that is my home turf. I even had a chance to shovel some of the “wonder” a couple of times, but I don’t mind. It wasn’t a challenge like a blizzard anyway, it was a couple of gentle snowfalls, just a few inches in total and it was the fluffy stuff, not the heavier wet snow. It was more a matter of getting some fresh air than it was work. And when I was done, I was rewarded with a beautiful silence that always accompanies gentle snowfalls like these, especially in the evening.

Then the holidays were over and, because of the week off, I had to hit the ground running to catch up with work and my chores that I shoved to the side for vacation purposes. As far as my blog went, I had one ready to go and so I was resting easy on that score. I was all set to get back to “givin’ ‘m hell” and “tellin’ ‘m what for” and all of that. Then I heard about Tucson…
